Farage might be giving GE2017 a miss but expect to see him on many leaflets

The first week of the general election campaign has been characterised by the huge move to CON in the polls and also the number of big names who would have let it be known that they are leaving the political scene.

What is also becoming striking is that UKIP is mounting nothing like a campaign that we have seen in the past. The party’s made it clear that it will not stand against strongly leave CON MPs and we’ve seen Nigel Farage announce that he won’t be making an eight attempt to become an MP

It could be that UKIP doesn’t put a candidate up in maybe a third of the seats and that is going to have an impact on the party’s overall national vote share.

But rest assured that Farage will figure in the campaign in many different ways. The leaflet that the LDs are putting out in Vauxhall, which voted strongly for Remain. has the yellows trying to tar the incumbent MP and Leave campaigner, Kate Hoey, with her links with Nigel Farage.

Also today we have seen the former UKIP major donor, Arron banks, visit Clacton and then tell the world that he will not continue with his effort to stand for Parliament there.
